Some research claims that AI will take over every field, including Cybersecurity - but how valid is this research? How do we assess this research for ourselves?
I have 20 years’ experience in computer science research, primarily Cybersecurity and AI. This has included multiple attempts, with mixed results, to turn AI ideas into working security tools. In this talk, I will outline the process of AI research from idea, to publication, to prototype, to product - and why many promising AI systems fail to make it through all these stages. The talk will also describe how the Cybersecurity domain could be more a threat than an opportunity to AI systems.
At a time where some claim all of information technology will change in the next two years, this talk should provide some tools to assess how IT is supposed to change, and why it may not.
